The blind man whose face had been spat was healed: what we see in this passage is amazing. As they came across that blind man, Jesus’ disciples immediately asked him: “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents?” When we are before a situation like that, we start seeking an explanation. It is easier to find justifications for the facts than to believe in a miracle. If you haven’t achieved what you aimed at, or if you had a disease and you haven’t been healed yet, you will probably start seeking an explanation. The disciples wanted to know who had sinned to explain the reason why that thing could have happened. But Jesus’ answer soon interrupted the disciples’ thought: “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life”. Ask yourself: What hinder us from doing the work of God? The answer is simple. The circumstances that surround us and what we do not understand may stop our mind and make us standstill. It means that when we understand the values of God we are transformed and we start thinking over these values. At that time people were not sensitive to the values of God. The healing that the blind man received changed all his life. We must change for better instead of staying standstill. In Chapter 9 of John, verse 19, the Jewish asked even the blind man’s parents about his disease. In verse 26, they asked the blind man for the second time about what had happened, how he had been healed. Those people could not see the Son of God; their eyes were not sensitive to spiritual things. That was exactly what Jesus wanted to show with this strange act. This message is for today. God, set us free from having our eyes not sensitive and having a religious gospel. Since the world is until today, there weren’t greater deeds than the ones that will come. I believe! The supernatural from God is to come! Many times we are like that: God gives us a word, but then “confusion” comes, a hardship, and we forget what he had said. Even though everything seems strange, do not stop, remember: I have a word of God for my life! This is the lesson the blind man teaches us – walk on what God promised you. Listen. The power of healing was not in the spit, but in the obedience. However, why did that blind man have to face this situation? In order to the work of God were displayed in his life. If the work of God does not display in my life, the gospel in my life is worthless. Joseph had to suffer what he suffered so that the prophecy should be fulfilled (Psalms 105:17-20), Sarah faced tests so that the promise should be fulfilled (Genesis 21:1), Jesus came to the world so that the Scriptures should be fulfilled (Luke 4:21). |
